The Board and Executive Management of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is pleased to announce that it has received its second clean audit opinion from the Auditor General of South Africa for the 2022/2023 financial year. This is the second time the entity receives a clean audit opinion since the one received in the previous financial year.
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency is an entity of the Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism tasked with the responsibility to provide for the sustainable management and promotion of tourism and nature conservation in the Province and to ensure the sustainable utilization of natural resources.
“Achieving this clean audit for the second time in a row is a positive milestone for the entity. As the Board we are delighted with this achievement as it confirms our commitment to position the MTPA and further provide confidence on the work that is done by the entity”, said Mr Victor Mashego, Chairperson of the Board.
“The audit outcome continues to reaffirm the efforts by the Board and Executive Management to maintain the public trust in the utilisation of the public purse. Since the clean audit from the previous financial year, the Executive Management has worked hard to ensure that internal controls are strengthened. We continue to strive for good corporate governance and financial management”, added Mashego.
“A second clean audit outcome shows the determination and commitment by team MTPA despite the financial pressures it faces. The Auditor-General has commended the Executive Management for continuing to implement the audit action plans and for ensuring that there are even tighter and stricter controls as well as improved internal processes”, said Mr Mduduzi Vilakazi, Acting CEO of the MTPA.
“We remain committed and steadfast to uphold a positive image for the entity. Through consistent and coordinated effort with our stakeholders in the tourism and conservation sectors we are confident that we will take the MTPA to greater heights”, concluded Vilakazi.
