Mpumalanga Tourism, 03 October 2022
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is saddened by the terrible incident that resulted in a German tourist being shot to death in an attempted hijacking on the Numbi Road near White River on the 3 +October 2022. “We condemn this horrific attack on our tourists at all cost. The tourists were on holiday in Mpumalanga enroute to Mdluli Safari Lodge when the incident happened. They were stopped by three armed suspects who eventually fled the scene after this brutal incident”, said Mr Mduduzi Vilakazi, Acting CEO of the MTPA. We want to convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends who have been affected by this devastating act. We also convey our deepest support to the Mdluli Safari Lodge for losing one of their patrons in this brutal incident. “We are appalled by this kind of incidents that continue to create a bad reputation and experience about Mpumalanga and the country at large. Our Tourism Safety team from the MTPA is already engaging the surviving members of the family and friends by providing the necessary counselling and after care support. The matter has also been reported to the German Embassy”, added Vilakazi. We are working together with the SAPS, Regional Tourism Organisation in Ehlanzeni (Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism: KLCBT) to come up with ways of ensuring our tourists are safe as they get ready for the festive season. The KLCBT has issued a R50 000.00 reward to anyone who may come up with information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. The law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the matter and we are confident that the perpetrators will be caught and brought to book. We are still committed to ensure that tourists are safe and protected at all times when visiting our Province.
