The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is pleased to announce the Parks Week from 11 – 15 September 2023. The Parks Week is an initiative to open its selected nature reserves around the Mpumalanga Province free of charge to the public.

The Parks Week initiative forms part of the province’s Tourism Month programme which is celebrated annually in September with the aim of creating tourism awareness to locals and encourage travelling to explore the various tourism attractions on offer.

“We are encouraging the public to enjoy the serene and tranquil beauty of the Mpumalanga Province in our nature reserves endowed with the scenic beauty, wildlife and hiking trails. This is an opportunity to explore the diverse tourism attractions within the province”, said Mr. Mduduzi Vilakazi, Chief Executive Officer of the MTPA.

The Parks Week is amongst the Tourism Month programme launched by MEC NE Hlophe on the 25th August 2023 at The Essence Resort in Fenie near Empuluzi in the Gert Sibande District.

“Due to the imbalanced economic outlook in our province, most of our communities are unable to explore the province. We are appealing to the public to take advantage of the free access week to our selected parks to enjoy the wildlife at their doorsteps. We further encourage our patrons to utilize tourism products in the township and rural areas adjacent our nature reserves to boost economic activities in these areas.” said MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Ms Nompumelelo Hlophe.

A total of ten (10) provincial nature reserves throughout the province will be open to the public during the Parks Week. This is strictly for day visitors only. Accommodation will be at a normal cost for those that wish to have an overnight experience. The free access is also applicable to groups of school learners.
