Entries for the esteemed Lilizela Tourism Awards will now close on the 8th of June instead of the 31st of May. Given the high interest and number of entries, the deadline date to enter the 6th National Lilizela Tourism Awards has been extended - giving South Africa’s accommodation establishments and tourism-related products and services an additional week to enter and stand in line to be recognised amongst the best of the best in the tourism industry.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards launched in 2013 by the National Department of Tourism, are South Africa’s premier travel and tourism awards. The aim of the annual awards is to recognize and celebrate businesses across the tourism value chain for their commitment, excellence and inspiring travel to and within South Africa.
“The Tourism industry is an important sector and contributes towards South Africa’s economy and job creation. The Lilizela Tourism Awards, give us the opportunity to not only celebrate passionate and committed trailblazers, but to also showcase the diversity of the products and services that add to the uniqueness of our country’s tourism offering,” said South African Tourism Chief Executive Officer, Sisa Ntshona.
The National Department of Tourism and South African Tourism will be hosting the National Lilizela Tourism Awards in October this year while the provincial awards will take place during Tourism Month in September, in the various nine provinces across the country. With less than two weeks left to enter, tourism businesses are encouraged to enter the awards before the deadline.
Accommodation establishments wishing to enter the awards are required to be graded with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), a business unit of South African Tourism. Those yet to be graded are encouraged to do so on the www.tourismgrading.co.za site.
“The TGCSA is the only recognized and globally benchmarked quality assurance body for tourism products in South Africa and is part of South African Tourism’s ongoing drive to promote service excellence,” added Ntshona.
In 2017, the awards attracted a record number of 1 649 entries, up by about 40% from 2016’s figure.
