The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (the MTPA) signed a Media Production Facilities Agreement with Triosphere as the producer, and the Blyde4CPAs. The initial agreement was signed in 2014; however, the agreement was recently extended for a period of five consecutive years, which started from 1 January 2024, and expires on the 31st of December 2029.
On an annual basis, Triosphere conducts filming productions on one section of the Blyde River Canyon, namely the Swadini viewpoint. Several days are allocated to this activity, being staggered throughout the year depending on the series to be produced.
At the beginning of 2026, they will be filming on the following days with the following conditions:
- Monday, 19 January 2026: Advance crew arrives. This will have zero impact on visitors. Full boat access.
- Sunday, 01 February 2026: The Waterfall and Path will be closed to the public. Full access for boats and the visitor centre will be maintained.
- Saturday, 07 February 2026: The Waterfall and Path will reopen to the public.
- Friday, 13 February 2026: Final crew departure.
The only impact on tourists visiting Swadini Dam will be for 6 (six) days during the closure of the waterfall as indicated above. All other parts of the viewpoint will be open to the public.
The MTPA will keep you informed regarding the schedules for 2026.
