The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) cautions members of the public that the illegal harvesting and use of fish and other natural resources from the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve for commercial purposes is unlawful and will lead to prosecution.
No person may harvest, collect, remove, damage, or disturb any plant, animal, fish, firewood, soil, rock, or any other natural resource within the Protected Area for commercial purposes without prior written authorisation from the MTPA.
The MTPA is the duly appointed Management Authority of the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve in terms of applicable national and provincial environmental legislation. As the Management Authority, the MTPA is responsible for the control, administration, and protection of all natural and cultural resources within the Protected Area.
Any commercial activity conducted within the reserve requires formal approval from the Management Authority. Unauthorised harvesting, trading, or commercial exploitation of natural resources constitutes an offence and may result in prosecution, fines, confiscation of equipment, and/or further legal action.
These enforcement measures are necessary to ensure the conservation of biodiversity, the protection of ecological integrity, and the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
The MTPA remains committed to enforcing environmental legislation and safeguarding the ecological health of the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve. The Agency will continue to monitor and act decisively against illegal activities, and any person found to be operating outside the law will be prosecuted and subjected to the full extent of applicable penalties.
