Head of Tourism Appointed at MTPA

The Board of Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Xolani Mthethwa as the Head of Tourism with effect from 1 April 2015. This follows a thorough and extensive search process over recent months.

Mr Xolani Mthethwa has been appointed on a five year contract with the MTPA. Prior to his appointment he was working at Limpopo Tourism Agency as a Senior Manager Destination Development, a position he occupied since 2004. During his tenure at Limpopo Tourism Agency he briefly served as Acting Chief Marketing Officer for a period of a year, and then in 2011 he was appointed as Senior Manager Marketing Services.

His responsibilities included strategy and policy implementation as stipulated in the provincial tourism act. His position in marketing included amongst others generic marketing of the province, brand management, tourism awareness, SMME development, etc.

“We are delighted that Mr Mthethwa has joined MTPA. He brings along vast experience in both tourism marketing and development” said Acting CEO, Mr Sam Maluleka.

“Having worked at South African Tourism and Gauteng Tourism Authority, exposed him to a number of marketing activities that include tourism information maintenance and management as well as liaising with various international offices regarding tourism information and research. We trust that with the number of years of experience that he brings in the tourism industry, he will assist in ensuring that we take Mpumalanga forward both in the domestic and international market” added Maluleka.

“We wish Mr Mthethwa well in his new appointment and we are confident that he will adapt well and take Mpumalanga forward in terms of tourism growth” concluded Maluleka.
