Dr  Esther Mahlangu is a previous Lilizela category winner in the Roots and Culture category, Mahlangu's colourful Ndebele designs have been exhibited around the world and have graced global brands such as BMW, British Airways, Fiat and Belvedere luxury vodka, placing South African traditional art and design on the international map. The award ceremony recognises proudly South African organisations or individuals who, through sheer dedication and passion, have excelled in positioning the country as a tourism destination of choice, contributing to the vibrancy and growth of the sector.

In 2018 March 02, Mpumalanga celebrated and recognised the work that has been done by Dr Esther Mahlangu in preserving the Ndebele culture and promoting the South African cultural heritage & diversity globally. South African artist Dr  Esther Mahlangu has been acknowledged for the stellar work she has done to promote the Ndebele culture during the 2017 Lilizela Tourism Awards held in Sandton. Former Tourism Minister Thokozile Xasa inducted Mahlangu into the first ever Lilizela Hall of Fame Award. Mahlangu, who received the Minister's Award last year, became the inaugural Hall of Fame inductee for being an exemplary global ambassador for South Africa's indigenous arts and cultural heritage.

MTPA further went on to do a need analysis for the accommodation facility was established by the Icon to ensure that is still in line with the Tourism standards as per the grading Council guidelines. A few items that were not in good condition and the Agency undertook a process to secure goods as part of the SMME support programme. The Guesthouse will further will be subsided to facilitate the process of grading the facility for a period of 3 years.

All this efforts are to ensure that the legacy of Dr Esther Mahlangu continues to be celebrated by the people of her own province.
