The Species Protection/Special Investigation Unit is responsible for the implementation of strategies to ensure pro - active programs and reactive investigations for the protection of rare and endangered species of fauna and flora (e.g. rhino & cycads), to facilitate and promote the conservation crime intelligence system, intelligence gathering, investigate organized crime regarding Rare and Endangered species, investigate cross border crime provincially, nationally and internationally and conduct security audits on Protected Areas.
