Picture a rugged country, where mountains come to a sudden stop, and sweeping grasslands abound, offering views for miles. If you decide to pack a small part of life up this December, and head toward the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga, that’s exactly what you will get, and so much more!
An incredibly scenic self-drive trip, the Panorama Route offers something for everyone in the family. Starting with the mountains of the Drakensberg at the North-Eastern area of the Great Escarpment all the way through to the Lowveld, you’ll be met with waterfalls, canyons, and an abundance of space to let your mind wander free and allow yourself the air needed to breathe in the start of a New year on the horizon.
Close to the Panorama Route is the Kruger Park, so if you are heading for some game drives in the next few weeks, and looking to extend your time away, this may be a great option.

Our Capital – Mbombela
Capital of the Mpumalanga province, Nelspruit is also very close to the Kruger National Park. One of the most wonderful places to visit while here is the Lowveld Botanical Gardens.
You’ll be met with a lush man-made rain forest where you can eagerly explore the many trees, plants and flowers, and look out for the natural wildlife that have made their home within.
The Town of White River
White River is a small town, typically a farming community with an air of creative flair! There are many wonderful restaurants and cafés to kick back and relax in, art galleries to browse or fresh farm stalls to visit.
If you’re in the mood for museums - the Motor Museum may tickle your fancy. Or perhaps it’s more activity you are looking for, then the golf course may be just what you’re looking for.
Sabie
The small town of Sabie has its origins in gold mining. In 1871 HT Glynn was doing some target practice when a divergent bullet hit a rock and revealed a gold reef. That was the start of the gold rush in this small town.
Take a wander through this historical town or get adventurous with abseiling, quad bike racing and more!
Pilgrim's Rest
As the second place in the Transvaal to be found with gold, the town of Pilgrims Rest is also steeped in history, and as such has been named a provincial heritage site.
You’ll want to explore the town itself, and get to know the history of how it came to be, as well as visit local pubs and restaurants to get a real feel for the town’s culture.
Graskop
Graskop is positioned at the start of the Blyde River Plateau and will take your breath away with it’s unbelievable scenery. Expect to spend some time around Graskop to take in all the beauty it has to offer!
