“Tumi Morake and Thenjiwe have made successful careers in a world that does not have a prominent female presence. They are two of the most popular and beloved comediennes in the country. To acknowledge the important contributions they and other women have made in our society, we are delighted to host this special day at Emnotweni in partnership with Site Et Sons Media Productions,” says Nicolette Botha, Emnotweni Casino’s Marketing Manager.

Acclaimed actress and writer Tumi Morake discovered her talent for comedy in 2006, and has since made a name for herself as one of a handful of successful comediennes in South Africa. Tumi’s many career highlights include being the only female among international and local acts at the 2009 Vodacom Funny Festival, performing at the inaugural Comics Choice Awards (2011) and being part of the 4664 “It’s No Joke” line-up. Her comedy style has been described as “in your face” and slightly provocative.

Sharing the stage with Tumi is her “partner in funny”, Thenjiwe, one of the most well-recognised and popular comediennes in the industry today. Thenjiwe began her career in London in 2012, and was voted a finalist in the Funny Woman Awards in the same year. She has since performed all over South Africa, UK, Belgium, America, Berlin and Congo.

Armed with a Diploma in Performing Arts from Durban University of Technology, Thenjiwe separated herself from the pack by combining her comedy and acting talents to create “Thenjiwe Comedy Skits”, which has resulted in her enjoying viral status on the internet. Her fans are treated to weekly videos of the skits on her social media accounts.

With their universal appeal and unique comedic personalities, the ladies have grown into comedy tour de force. Tumi Morake & Thenjiwe’s comedy show, “The First Ladies of Comedy”, is the perfect occasion to celebrate their achievements in conjunction with Women’s Day, and also get in a good laugh.

Tickets are on sale from R130 per person, with Front Row Centre Seats costing R150 per person, and are available through Computicket or online via the Emnotweni website. Emnotweni Rewards Cardholders will receive up to 20% discount on show tickets. The show starts 18:30.
