,

The third installment of Annual Mbombela Jazz festival will once again thrill the crowds from 7 - 8 September 2019 at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Harmocept Holdings and Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency established the Mbombela Jazz Festival in 2017 with the aim of attracting music lovers and tourists from afar. The intention of this event is to turn Mpumalanga into a tourism and cultural mecca.

“Events play a significant role in creating awareness about any tourism destination. There are people who travel not only for leisure purposes or for relaxation but for entertainment as well”, said Mr Thulani Nzima, Chairperson of the MTPA Board.

“The Mbombela Jazz Festival has managed to attract more than 3 000 patrons in 2017 and 7 000 in 2018. This is testament to the loyalty of the people of Mpumalanga and the continued support from our neighboring countries like Mozambique and Eswatini”, added Nzima.

This year’s third Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival promises to continue to celebrate all that Mpumalanga has to offer in tourism and culture. This is informed by the diverse programme of activities planned from the Memorial Lecture, Golf Day, Creative Arts Development Indaba and Fashion Show, which will culminate to the festival on 7 September 2019. The Sunday Jam Session will be held at Driekoppies Dam in Nkomazi on 8 September 2019.

This year’s lineup features national and international artists like Syleena Johnson from USA, Ringo, Zahara and others who will be announced in due course. The Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture is aimed at paying tribute to Ray Phiri who received numerous awards in recognition of his contribution in the music industry. Prof. PLO Lumumba will address this year’s memorial lecture.

Since the launch of Mbombela Jazz Festival, a mixture of emerging and established artists across different genres were part of the lineup. This year’s event will continue to promote the spirit of inclusivity. The Creative Arts Indaba that will be hosted during the festival month and on the main festival day will have an SMME village, which will give opportunities to the upcoming designers and crafters from the province. The fashion show that will be hosted in one of the malls in Mbombela will afford designers an opportunity to showcase their products.

The Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival Golf Day, which is a precursor to the main festival, will be hosted at White River Country Club. The Golf Day creates a social opportunity for businesses to network whilst assisting impoverished schools in the province. All proceeds accrued from this event will be used to purchase schools shoes for the needy children.

“MTPA’s aim is to create awareness on the impact of tourism in our daily lives. The Mbombela Jazz Festival and the number of build-up events planned are aimed at creating awareness about the event and how our local communities will benefit from some of these events”, explained CEO of MTPA, Mr BJ Nobunga.

“We invite you to take a journey with us and participate in the Mbombela Jazz Festival programme with the aim of promoting Mpumalanga as a destination of choice”, concluded Nobunga.
