The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has prioritized to celebrate Mandela Day with the elderly people at Tiyang Matla Moriri Mosweu Old Age Centre situated next to Mdala and Mkhombo Nature Reserves in the Nkangala Region.

Tiyang Matla Moriri Mosweu Old Age Home Centre has 22 elderly participants. Within a short distance from Tiyang Matla Moriri Mosweu is two (2) other centres, Boitumelo Home Based Care Centre and Impilo Old Age Centre. The three centres were identified by MTPA to be part of the celebrations on 18 July 2018.

Mr. Johannes Nobunga, CEO of MTPA said, “prior to this celebration a needs analysis was conducted for Tiyang Matla Moriri Mosweu Old Age Centre. Based on the analysis MTPA decided to revamp the centre and provide some tools to make the facility user friendly and safe for the elderly.”

Boitumelo Home Based Care Centre accommodates 26 elderly people and Impilo Old Age Home Centre accommodates 32 elderly people. Impilo Old Age Home Centre also caters for additional 15 elderly people who are not well physically but receive regular visits from the Management Team of Impilo. Both centres were provided with Jojo Water Tanks.

Some of the things provided by MTPA included:

“Mandela Day calls on everyone, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July, we look back on what has been done and what we plan to do in future to make a difference. As MTPA we strive to make a change to the lives of communities residing on the borders of our nature reserves”, explained Nobunga.

“This year as we celebrate 100 years since Nelson Mandela’s birth, we ask everyone to reflect on what he lived for and what he believed in. We ask everyone to take a moment and put a smile on someone’s face. We stand together in living Madiba’s legacy. We encourage everyone to take action. Inspire change and make every day a Mandela Day”, concluded Nobunga.
