The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has learned of the untimely passing of the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa.
“We are saddened by the sudden passing of Minister Molewa. We would like to convey our sincere condolences to the Molewa family, friends and those that worked closely with her in this industry”, said Mr Johannes Nobunga, CEO of MTPA.
“Having started perusing conservation issues long before becoming the Minister, she made it to be one of the greatest advocates of the conservation agenda. She received prominence and attention in her efforts and hard work in the fight against illegal wildlife trade and poaching especially the rhino poaching. The recent arrests of rhino poaching Kingpins that happened during the past week are some of the fruits of her hard labour and commitment to eradicate the scourge of poaching and trade in endangered animals. Hers was not a South African fight but a continental and worldwide crusade to save the endangered species of all sorts”, commented Nobunga.
She was a champion for environmental integrity and her efforts contributed greatly towards the success of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).
We will miss her strong leadership and dedication to this sector. May her soul rest in peace.
