,

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) today, 14 March 2019 hosted the inaugural annual Pixley ka Isaka Seme Charity Golf Day at the Graceland Casino and Resort in Secunda.

The aim of the charity golf day is to pay tribute to Pixley ka Isaka Seme, the legendary leader, farmer and intellectual who founded the South African National Native Congress (which was later renamed the African National Congress) on 8 January 1912 in Mangaung.

“We are excited to be hosting this inaugural Charity Golf Day as part of celebrating the life of  Pixley ka Isaka Seme which forms part of the Liberation Heritage Route. Through this initiative we will be able to use this platform to further promote the culture and heritage offerings in the Gert Sibande District. Our strategic engagements with various stakeholders through this event will afford us an opportunity to forge long lasting relations that will benefit the communities of Mpumalanga”, said MTPA’s CEO, Mr Johannes Nobunga.

“The planned fundraising dinner will have its proceeds going towards the establishment of the Pixley ka Isaka Seme Education Fund which will benefit deserving tourism students in the province,” added Nobunga. Corporates in various industries are encouraged to support this Charity Golf initiative and the fundraising dinner.

The event will be graced by the presence of Mr Maxwell Vezi Seme, the grandson of the historic legend, Pixley ka Isaka Seme.

The next event within this programme will be the Annual Pixley ka Isaka Seme Memorial Lecture which will soon be held in Daggakraal. There will be other memorial lectures that are being planned for the liberation stalwarts who worked and lived in the Gert Sibande District Municipality.

The series of events that are being hosted in the Gert Sibande region contributes to tourism growth and job creation in particular for the youth in the area. The Gert Sibande region is known for its diverse tourism offerings such as the Liberation Heritage Route, the water activities in the Grootdraai Dam, Goliath’s footprint and giant mushroom rock to name a few.

The golf tee off will be at 08h00 in the morning at Graceland Casino and Conference Resort and will be followed by the prize giving and fundraising dinner.
