ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR THE ANNUAL TOURISM INDABA

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is in full swing in preparation for this year’s Indaba, the largest travel and tourism marketing event on the African calendar scheduled to take place from 9 – 11 May 2015 at Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

 

This trade show attracts more than 13 000 visitors, 1 300 exhibitors, over 170 international hosted buyers and hundreds of local and international media. It is an excellent opportunity for exhibitors including accommodation, tour operators, game lodges, transport operators, online travel operators, safari and camping companies, media publications, industry bodies and tourism authorities to showcase their different product and service offerings.

 

“Indaba is still an essential and strategic marketing platform to showcase the country and province’s rich and diverse tourism portfolio to the international buyers”, said Mr Xolani Mthethwa, Head of Tourism at MTPA.

 

“Consistent with our mandate to promote the province as a preferred tourism destination, the MTPA will again this year showcase various products including tour operators, accommodation, as well as generic attributes and attractions that set Mpumalanga apart from other destinations. Our theme this year “Culture and Mystery” as Mpumalanga seeks to further highlight the diverse rich culture as well as the unique interesting facts that makes this province a destination of choice”.

 

“Represented on the Mpumalanga stand will be product owners from the three regions in the province including those from the Kruger Lowveld Tourism and Highveld Tourism Regions. A total of 10 emerging tourism products will also be introduced to this exciting marketing platform of which four will be attending for the first time”, added Mthethwa.

 

MTPA has taken a different approach aimed at ensuring that tour operators that take part in Indaba sell meaningful packages of the destination that would appeal to the international market.

 

“In an effort to provide SMME support during Indaba, the Tourism Enterprise Partnership (TEP) continues to engage SMMEs in a workshop to equip them with essential knowledge on how to derive optimum benefit from this trade show”, explained Mthethwa.

 

“We are delighted to be part of the delegation representing Mpumalanga at this most prestigious travel trade show. We have deemed the show as one of the essential platforms to be used in promoting and positioning destination Mpumalanga” concluded Mthethwa.
