Concurrent to her secondment as Acting CEO for MTPA, Dr Nthabiseng Motete is a Deputy Director-General (DDG) for Green Economy in the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (DEDET). Her service to the Province of Mpumalanga started in 2008 when she joined the Provincial Government Administration as DDG for a Flagship Programme on “Heritage, Greening Mpumalanga and Tourism”. Previously, Dr Motete was Programme Coordinator at the former Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT), where she was responsible for a programme of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) between South Africa and the neighbouring States (Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe). She has a strong background in scientific research and her PhD thesis specifically addressed impacts of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions on water use and productivity of ecosystems. She served in a number of Panel Review Committees for the National Research Foundation (NRF) Focus Areas of Sustainable Natural Resource Utilisation during 2006 and 2007, as well as the Global Change Challenge Programme in 2011; having also served in the Ecology Research Panel of the Working for Water Programme in 2003 and 2004. Dr Motete is also a member of Council (Board) for the Robben Island Museum.
