These are awards aimed at honouring tourism players and businesses that work passionately to deliver a world-class product and service, and whose delivery grows South Africa’s global destination competitiveness. Building up towards the National Awards Ceremony the Province has been tasked to facilitate the process to Maximize participation and host a Provincial Ceremony whereby Provincial winners and finalists will be announced.  The overall winners from each category will then proceed to compete nationally with winners from other provinces and the overall winners will be announced during the National Award Ceremony to be hosted by the Minister. This will act as a build-up event towards the national Lilizela Awards.

MBOMBELA JAZZ FESTIVAL

Accompanied by various other tourism month events and planned highlights each geared at showcasing the province of Mpumalanga as a tourism destination of choice. The agency have partnered with Harmocept Holdings a relationship solidified in 2017 with the aims to host the Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival as part of promoting the province of Mpumalanga during Tourism Month celebrated each year during the month of September.

 

 This is a 3-day event, please see attached Annexure for reference.

MPUMALANGA PARKS WEEK

The aim of the parks week is to create awareness to all South Africans citizens to travel and also visit our reserves. They will enjoy free entry (day visits for South African residents only) to all MTPA Provincial Nature Reserves. Running from the 17th to the 21st of September 2017, this will be a week-long promotion intends to encourage locals to visit the selected provincial nature reserves during the Heritage Day weekend. This will only take place during week days and excluding weekends.

DIGITAL MARKETING WORKSHOP

The workshop will be held as part of our ongoing support through which we will facilitate digital marketing training to Trade. It is a transformative agenda that we are pursuing after recognizing that digital marketing skills are in short supply.
This will bring provincial industry players on par with global trends in terms of digital marketing because the state of digital marketing within the Tourism sector as well as the interest of Trade towards online marketing is very limited.

 

BLYDE HIKING TRAILS LAUNCH

Blyde Nature Reserve

The agency will launch the hiking trails at Blyde, the trails are as follows:

One day and three days trail.

The 1 (one) day  trail starts from Bourkes Luck Potholes to Belvedere

The 3 (three) days trail  - day one: Paradise camp to Watervalspruit which is 3km. Day two: starts from Watervalspruit to Clearstream which 13.5km. Day 3 starts from Clearstream to oldmine at Bourkes Luck Potholes which is 13.6km. 

The agency will also launch its newly refurbished rustic accommodation (Waterval hut and Clearstream hut).

The Annual Badplaas Beer fest is a 2 day family festival with live entertainment, flea market, German & other food stalls, beer tent and craft beer. The event has over the past attracted approximately 2000 guest over the two day period in which it is hosted. Local crafters will be invited to exhibit local manufactured products to be displayed and sold to attendees. This event contributes immensely towards the growth of domestic tourism.

LAUNCH OF TOURISM ROUTE  (BUSHBUCKRIDGE)

This is township and tourism initiative which will also include cultural tourism experience. The aim of this route is to encourage the participation of historically disadvantaged communities bordering the eastern part of Bushbuckridge, which are the rural communities, in tourism through route development. Draft itinerary of the route will be presented on the day of the event. This route is part of the bigger plan to develop and promote rural tourism.

MBOMBELA JAZZ FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

The MTPA requests the presence of the Honourable MEC: Mr SE Kholwane to grace these events and introduce the Deputy President during the Ray Phiri Memorial lecture. 


The events are arranged as follows:

 

06 September 2018

The MTPA together with the University of Mpumalanga will be hosting the inaugural Memorial Lecture for the late Ray Phiri. This is event is one of the build-up sessions leading up to the Mbombela Jazz Festival.  The event will be attended by the honourable Deputy President Mr DD Mabuza.  This event will be held on 06 September 2018 at the University of Mpumalanga, Great hall at 14h00.

 

Golf Day: 07 September 2018

A golf charity event will be hosted in order to get school shoes for vulnerable children in Ehlanzeni. The golfers are required to bring school shoes during the tournament.  The golf day event will take place at Matumi Golf Club from 09h00.

 

Welcome Function: 08 September 2018

The Mbombela Jazz Festival is the main musical event that will take place on 08 September 2018 at the Mbombela Stadium from 15h00. 

 

Spring Affair Soul Session 09 September 2018

A musical soul session will be hosted at the Botanical Garden, themed Spring Affair.  The event will take place at the Botanical Garden on 9 September at 14h00.
