Barberton Game Reserve
Barberton is situated 20km south of Nelspruit on the main route towards Barberton which has a gold mining history. This 2500 ha reserve has a beautiful and landscape and a very high plant species diversity. The broken landscape makes this reserve an aesthetically attractive area. It forms a mostly unspoilt part of the lowveld sour bush type
The area is presently inhibited by low numbers of various introduced and naturally occurring game species including kudu, bushbuck, klipspringer, red rare duiker, baboons, velvet monkey, and rock classier.
Bird life is also good, with 300 recorded species to date. The Barberton game reserve has high productivity potential for game because of its large landscape diversity which enables a wide choice of species to be introduced.
Activities
It is a day visitor facility, which offers a picnic site with built-in braai stands and a beautiful stream on sight. Visit the secretive Barberton Sea Dam and wiggle your toes in the sea sand-like sand.
