Three Provinces 4x4 Trail
Situated on the farm Waterval, the Three Provinces Trail is aptly named. This is the place where three provinces actually meet. Here on top of Langkrans, a sheer cliff 2 253 m above sea level, is where KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Free State officially meet in a masterpiece of nature. The 4x4 route includes stream crossings, mountainous and rocky terrain to traverse and even muddy holes to navigate around or go through, accommodating anyone from the novice driver to the more experienced adventurer. The route covers a 32 km drive and another 9 km 'Wildkamp' route is available. Maps and all GPS co-ordinates are supplied to you before leaving on the drive. As an alternative, there are two Battlefield routes between 70 and 100 km, which include visits to historical places of interest like the site of the battle of 'Allemansnek', old graves, a tunnel, a museum with a zoo and freshly baked farm bread! ACCOMMODATION For the less enthusiastic people who would rather avoid a 4x4 drive, staying at the campsite allows for rest and relaxation in gorgeous scenic surroundings. The campsite is located at the foot of a soaring cliff and surrounded by gorgeous fauna and flora, with a variety of indigenous plants, shrubs and trees to explore and admire, and an abundance of birds for the avid bird watcher to see. There is even a whole eco-system of small animals that young and mature alike will enjoy. Alternatively, overnight in a two-bedroom farmhouse, which sleeps six or in one of two self-catering guesthouses, which sleep six and twenty respectively.
