The MTPA are thrilled to once again welcome inter-provincial travel to the “Place of the Rising Sun”

Having just recently re-opened accommodation in various nature reserves throughout Mpumalanga, following the President’s announcement on Saturday 15 August, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) are thrilled to once again welcome inter-provincial travel to the “Place of the Rising Sun”.

All MTPA accommodation including the concessions at the Manyeleti and Songimvelo nature reserves are currently open, however, for the time being, the Mpumalanga nature reserves that are being used as quarantine sites are not available for accommodation bookings. Following the lift to alert level 2, overnight accommodation will now be allowed welcoming both intra and inter- provincial travellers to the province of Mpumalanga.

Ensuring that the province is prepared to welcome guests, those MTPA nature reserves that will open their facilities to all categories of travellers continue to account for the ongoing health and safety protocols that safeguard both staff and guests from the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Included in this are the mandated directives relating to transport capacity.

While the lift to alert level 2 comes as a welcomed reprieve to the restrictions on the South African travel and tourism industry, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency remains fully complaint with set regulations and requires all travellers to also adhere to the following restrictions that remain in place;

Travel between provinces is allowed for any purpose including both leisure and business reasons
Current restrictions on international travel remain in place:
  • Visits to family and friends are permitted in small groups
  • It remains mandatory to wear a mask at all times
  • All gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 (fifty) people only
  • A curfew remains in place from 10pm to 4am except for essential workers
  • The number of people allowed in a retail stores, restaurants, cinemas and other public spaces remains limited

We appeal to our visitors to adhere to these guidelines to avoid disappointment upon arrival at the gate and although not mandatory, the MTPA continues to encourage all guests intending to visit our nature reserves to make the necessary bookings and verify the gate entry times prior to their arrival by contacting our central reservations office on or +27 13 759 5432. Online payments to secure your reservations are also available with our parks central reservations office which further supports the ongoing requirements to socially distance, avoiding unnecessary contact with our park’s employees.

We look forward to welcoming back all travellers both day visitors and overnight guest from all four corners of our country who have been eager to return to our abundant province and explore the natural wonders that Mpumalanga has to offer. We appeal to our guests to always be safe and comply with the health and safety protocols that have been put in place that ensure not only the safety of our guest but our staff too.
