With just under six (6) months to prepare before the 3rd Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival is set to take centre stage in the province of Mpumalanga, the MTPA begins rolling out plans to host yet another ground shaking event. This year hosted on the 7th and the 8th of September at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, what started 3 years ago in partnership with Harmocept Holdings the Mbombela Jazz Festival aims at attracting music lovers from around the country to the province of Mpumalanga.
Promoting Mpumalanga as a tourism and culture mecca, this year's Annual Mbombela Jazz festival will once again thrill crowds with a local and international line up of world class musical performances. Through promoting the province by way of stage and sound events, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency continues to build awareness to the many travel and tourism experiences native to the area. While some travel for adventure and others travel for leisure and relaxation, there are a great number of individuals that travel for entertainment, visiting a variety of destinations in search of unique cultural experiences.
Having attracted more than 3000 guests in 2017 followed by 7000 in 2018, the 2019 Mbombela Jazz Festival gears up to welcoming a record number of visitors not only to enjoy the annual jazz concert but various other activities linked to this music and lifestyle festival. Celebrating all that Mpumalanga has to offer by way of travel and tourism, highlights running in conjunction to the programme include:
- The 2019 Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture this year to be addressed by Prof. PLO Lumumba in paying tribute and recognising various contributions that the musical icon made to the industry.
- The 2019 Golf Day
- A Creative Arts Development Indaba and Fashion Show
- A Sunday Jam Session held at Driekoppies Dam in Nkomazi on 8 September 2019
Since the launch of Mbombela Jazz Festival, a mixture of emerging and established artists across different genres, take part in the annual music festival. In continuing with the spirit of promoting inclusivity this year’s Mbombela Jazz Festival line-up will see the likes of musical acts including Syleena Johnson from USA, Ringo, Zahara and many others to be announced in build up to the coming festival.
As a precursor to the main festival the 2019 Golf Day will be hosted at White River Country Club. The Golf Day creates a social opportunity for businesses to network whilst assisting impoverished schools in the province. All proceeds accrued from this event will be used to purchase school shoes for needy children.
Over and above the music festival, the Creative Arts Indaba that will be hosted during the festival month and on the main festival day will have an SMME village, which will give opportunities to upcoming designers and crafters from the province. The fashion show that will be hosted in one of the malls in Mbombela will afford designers an opportunity to showcase their products.
In creating awareness on the impact of tourism and how it influences our daily lives, the Mbombela Jazz Festival and the number of build-up events planned around the festival, hope to showcase the province, local communities and cultures native to the area. The MTPA invites domestic and international visitors to join their journey in promoting Mpumalanga as a destination of choice through the 2019 Mbombela Jazz Festival programme.
